Gloria Vanderbilt x House of Revlon
The story behind the extravagant Fifth Avenue salon and its day with socialite Gloria Vanderbilt
In the late 1950s, the founder of Revlon, Charles Revson, decided his pioneering cosmetics company, which had achieved mass market success and was at the height of profitability, needed to reclaim the prestigious brand identity it once had. To do this, he created the most exclusive and extravagant salon to elevate Revlon’s status as well as directly compete with the upscale salons of the day which included the venerable Helena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden.
